Mother's Desperation by Vyndicare Mother's Desperation by Vyndicare
This is another submission to the contest for :iconoperation-requiem:
The theme is despair.

I went with a character that nobody usually draws. I see too many Erens, Levis, Mikasas, Annies, Jeans, Armins, etc. but none of the characters that had some of the saddest deaths. So I went with the seen of Eren's mother being consumed by a Titan. WHICH WAS SO SAD! I cried at that scene... :'(

Sorry man, but that face doesn't really conve "desperation".

She kind of looks like se broke up with his boyfriend or something (Giant hand nonwithstanding).

Lips too pouty, no expression lines.

Besides the theme is despair (the complete loss or absence of hope). Which is what I was trying to depict. To me, it just doesn't look like there's much hope for her. :\
Also she's not gritting her teeth or locking her jaw, it's just more of a shocked expression. Some people show get that way. So there aren't always going to be extremely noticeable expression lines. An this I a semi realism drawing. Not realism. So I don't NEED to have very noticeable expression lines.
The face is also t an upwards angle so you're ping to see everything curve upwards in the middle and go farther down when it gets to the sides of the face.
I don't mind criticism, but you should instead use constructive criticism instead of pointing out only the bad points. There is always some good in any drawing.

Ah, I was trying to be constructive but maybe I just sounded like an ass. :P

Of course there are good points on your painting buddy, you are certainly more talented than me, but since everybody else was pointing the good things, I pointed out the bad.

Anyway, I see your points, but still the expression is just not convincing to me; particularly since I know the scene where it comes from.

SnK always makes sure to convey the pure, unadultered terror one can feel moments away from being eaten by a deformed giant. This picture just doesn't convey that to me, even though its other technical aspects are correct.

Oh I see. In sorry if I sounded harsh. I know that the perspective view was the best looking considering I didn't go into detail on the hand. (Especially since I was tired of drawing every little stupid house in the background.) but I know I'm going to edit later when I feel like it. It's my first fearful expression, and it it didn't turn out the best. I actually do want to fix that. I appreciate your input though :) and since you explained yourself, I feel bad for lashing out on you.
For future reference, I reply only phone sometimes so the autocorrect jacks up my words XD so whenever it's something that doesn't make sense, autocorrect got to it. :P
Anyway, I'll try to fix the expression. I'll get it at some point.
Thank you~ :)

Eh. I tried. I'm not a professional but at least I try and experiment with new things. I'm not the best when it comes to shading faces and I've never done a shocked, scared, or depressed facial expression. You have to give me credit for trying though...

And honestly I had no idea what to name the piece.
